Five Amazing SUP Spots in NW England

When imagining hopping on a Stand Up Paddleboard, many people may picture the ocean, but there are so many more amazing places to take your SUP! The North West of England has a range of different types of water perfect for this sport! We have prepared our top 5 SUP Spots NW England for you. Read on...

The Lake District

Let’s start with England’s largest national park… the Lake District! With 16 lakes, tarns and meres this area is the perfect place for paddle boarding! Ullswater is the second largest lake in the Lake District, so why not SUP the full length of the lake – 30mph down winds make it perfect for the ultimate Lake District SUP tour. The three-hour, the one-way trip starts from the Steamer Pier car park in Glenridding village and finishes at Pooley Bridge in the north.

Coniston Water

Coniston Water is another area in which to enjoy the beauty of the Lake District. Jump on your paddleboard and head over to Peel Island! Made famous by Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons, Peel Island is located towards the southern end of Coniston Water. If the weather is clear you can see all the way down to the north of the lake – the perfect place to relax and enjoy the outdoors!

Woman Men In Nature Lake

Derwent Water

Derwent Water in Keswick is one of the best spots in the Lake District to take your SUP. As its proximity to the town of Keswick and easy access by the A66 makes so it is an ideal destination for your first paddle boarding adventure. Explore the numerous islands, secluded bays and river mouths at your leisure!

The Rochdale Canal

Our next North West hotspot… the beautiful Bluefin hometown of Hebden Bridge, located in West Yorkshire! Running through the market town is the Rochdale Canal, which stretches from Sowerby Bridge to Manchester. So, hop on your paddleboard and make your way through the beautiful scenery along the waterway from Hebden Bridge to Todmorden. Why not stop at the Stubbing Wharf Pub along the way for a quick bite and a drink. Then complete the rest of your journey, finishing at the Golden Lion in Todmorden.

Hollingworth Lake

Moving west to Greater Manchester, Hollingworth Lake is an area popular for water sports and family days out. Start at the Wine Press pub and paddle along the shore of the lake, finishing close to the Beach pub. The Beach pub serves great food, so you can refuel after a long paddle.

Wherever you decide to explore, a Bluefin SUP is perfect for the adventure – so roll it up, pop it in its carry bag and you’re ready to go!
